Owner-Requested Euthanasia

At times is may be necessary to euthanize a pet due to serious illness, injury or if the pet is experiencing a significantly diminished quality of life. Palm Valley Animal Society recommends you speak with your veterinarian for guidance regarding an end-of-life decision.

PVAS offers euthanasia services, but unfortunately cannot provide the opportunity to stay with your pet during the procedure. PVAS’ staff of compassionate, certified technicians provide humane death by injection as recommended by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Cremation options are offered through private cremation service agencies.

Process and Procedure

All owner requested euthanasia procedures are preceded by a medical screening of the pet by our staff, although we respect the owner’s decision the final outcome for each pet surrendered to PVAS is made on a case by case basis.

Appointments must be made in advance. Owners must provide proof of pet ownership and personal identification. If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency requiring euthanasia services, you may bring your pet to the center during our regular business hours, seven days a week. An appointment is not required for emergency euthanasia services. Your pet will be treated with compassion, dignity and respect by our caring staff.

We’re sorry, we are not able to perform euthanasia services for large companion animals/livestock such as goats, pigs, or horses. Please contact your veterinarian. For more information on our euthanasia services, call 956-686-1141.

Euthanasia and Communal Burial Service Fees

PVAS does not charge a fee for owner requested euthanasia services, however pet owners must follow the Admitting Department Owner Surrender Process and pay corresponding fees.

There will be a $25 fee to surrender a pet to PVAS and you must have a valid picture ID or proof of residency for residents of Partner Municipalities. Residents from non-Partner Municipalities will need to pay a $50 fee to surrender a pet.
